"The degree to which I can create relationships which facilitate the growth of others as separate persons is a measure of the growth I have achieved in myself."
- Carl Rogers
About
My name is Gareth Jacobson. Through my work in IB schools across different continents over the past twenty years, I've had the opportunity to experience education from multiple perspectives - as a classroom teacher navigating the daily realities of the home room, as a PYP coordinator trying to balance administrative responsibilities with pedagogical leadership, and as a principal working tirelessly to create conditions where authentic learning can flourish.
What has struck me consistently across these different contexts is how often I've encountered the same underlying challenges: dedicated educators who find themselves caught in administrative cycles that pull them away from the work they're most passionate about, teams that struggle to collaborate meaningfully despite shared goals, and learning experiences that become fragmented under the weight of competing initiatives and requirements.
These observations led me to develop what I call The HumanisticEd Method - an approach grounded in Carl Rogers' understanding of human potential and shaped by years of practical application in real school settings. At its core, this approach stems from the way I work and my conviction that every educator has an inherent capacity for growth and authentic leadership. Our role is to create the conditions where this potential can be realized.
